The Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) provides opportunities for employers, individually or in groups, to invest in their workforce, with help from the Ontario and Federal Government. This grant funding to help pay for a portion of new training for your staff to improve their skillsets and maximize your funding potential for new hires. Employment Ontario Service Providers have infused over a Million Dollars into the Niagara’s Economy with the COJG.

Amanda Channon Employer Specialist John Howard Society of Niagara – Job Gym

Amanda Channon has worked in a variety of capacities in the employment field for over 24 years. Her educational background includes a diploma in Social Work, Human Resources Management, Counselling for At-Risk Youth and she is a Level 2 Life Skills Coach. Amanda has a special interest in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and has focused professional development on expanding her knowledge in this area over the last few years. Her professional background has been primarily in the Employment Counsellor, Job Developer and Employer Specialist roles with an emphasis on employer relationships. Her training focuses on coaching employers and businesses on recruitment, screening and interviewing methods. She has developed a unique approach to recruitment for employers composing job descriptions and postings, compiling labour market research, supporting mass hiring and has conducted hundreds of interviews and background checks for businesses. Amanda has been both a leader and team member in organizing and facilitating a variety of recruitment events for new and existing businesses.

Amanda served as a member of the Business Engagement Committee via the Niagara Poverty Reduction Network, focusing on Living Wage. Amanda continues to participate in both the Niagara Working Group and Niagara Tourism Network specific to the hospitality sector. In addition to regular and ongoing participation in local chamber, professional associations and business network groups, she is also a current Board Director for the Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce and a former Pelham Business Association Board Member. Amanda’s positive attitude, dedication to the local business community and being solution focused are her key strengths.

Shavani Subramanian Case Coordinator/ COJG Coordinator with the John Howard Society of Niagara Job Gym

Shavani is a newcomer to Canada, having moved here from South Africa. Shavani is a multi-skilled and qualified human resources (HR) professional with solid industry experience in HR Business partnering, Talent acquisition, Administration management and training.

Shavani started with the John Howard Society as a Program assistant and has recently joined the Canada Ontario Job Grant Team. She is a people’s person and enjoys helping and empowering individuals to reach their goals.
