Creating a Healthy Business Environment

As a member-driven organization, the Greater Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce is governed by a volunteer board of directors and staff of two.

Founded in 1947 by lawyer Louis Ziff and members of the Fort Erie Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce), the Chamber was registered as a board of trade by the Department of the Secretary of State of Canada in Ottawa on April 10, 1951. The group wanted to create a healthy climate for business and industry in the community.

Nearly 70 years later, the Greater Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce has approximately 400 members and its mission remains to provide an avenue for business people to create a positive business environment in the community and beyond. As the “Voice of Business”, the Chamber helps promote local business, works with many levels of government to advocate on behalf of members’ interests, and helps to inspire, assist, educate, network, and refer business to local residents, tourists, and business people.
