The Chinese community in Niagara is coming together to financially support the region’s health-care system in its fight against COVID-19.
Marilyn Tian, president of Business Link Media Group in Niagara Falls, said in less than a week nearly 200 people have donated more than $30,000 to Niagara Health Foundation for the procurement of medical supplies.
She said the initiative began Saturday by a group of neighbours and family friends on social media. The news spread quickly among Chinese residents in Niagara, as well as people in the Greater Toronto Area and China, who also donated.
Tian, a spokesperson for the initiative, said the first round of donations has been transferred to the foundation.
