The question has been answered — and Niagara is bracing for impact.

U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 50 per cent tariffs on roughly $20-billion worth of Canadian goods Saturday morning after trade negotiations with Canada collapsed Friday night.

The deadline for the tariffs was originally Wednesday. But after a three-day reprieve announced late Tuesday, negotiators raced to broker a trade deal.

Niagara Economic Development director George Spezza warned ahead of Friday that 50 per cent tariffs would have “major impacts” on the local economy.
